Milnerton was founded in 1897 as part of a wave of optimism and development that gripped the country at the time. The area saw many industrial and commercial innovations. The first nitrogenous fertilizer factory in South Africa was built by Fisons here in 1967. 

Milnerton has seen continued growth in the area. Highlights include Prosperity Business Park (2004), The Stables industrial park in Potsdam Road (2009), and the Richmond Park development (2018), a landmark business park and mixed-use precinct. Prosperity Business Park is notable for selling all 40 units within two hours of its launch function.

Another milestone in Milnerton's history was the development of the Atlantic Hills Business Park. It's become a prominent logistic hub with easy airport, highway, and harbour access.

The M5 expressway connects Milnerton to Muizenberg in the south. Milnerton also has access to the N1 via the N7 freeway which connects directly to it. 

The driving distance from Milnerton to Cape Town International Airport is 17.7 km. This will take you roughly 26 minutes to reach your destination. The Port of Cape Town is even closer - roughly 16.1 km. This takes 21 minutes of travel time. 

Transport 

Getting around Milnerton is simple with many transport avenues available. Taxis operate regularly from the Joe Slovo Taxi Rank. For buses, look to Golden Arrow Bus Services or the MyCiTi bus route. For a train trip between Milnerton and Cape Town, head to Century City station. The Northern Line covers the northern suburbs of Cape Town (including Century City) and extends to Stellenbosch, Wellington, and Strand.

Shopping malls in the area include Canal Walk Shopping Centre, Centre Point Shopping Centre, and The Paddocks Shopping Centre.
