A brief history of Montague Gardens

In 1890, Dawie Graaff, became the mayor of Cape Town. He undertook a number of reforms to modernise the city including electrification. Graaff saw the potential in Montague Gardens and bought up land which extended from De Grendel all the way to Paarden Eiland and the former racecourse in Milnerton.

Today, like Graaff, businesses continue to see the value in Montague Gardens. This has been spurred by Montague Gardens' Marconi Beam becoming a Special Rating Area (SRA) in 2017. In doing so, the area enjoys a range of additional public safety measures, cleaning services, infrastructure maintenance, environment upgrades, and social services.

A Golden Arrow bus service can get you to Montague Gardens along Bosmansdam Road. Alternatively, you can also make use of a minivan taxi service or your personal vehicle.
